3D Modeling has officially began! While this is something I wanted to have done before this school year started, I'm happy we are beginning now. I ended up not touching this project at all over the summer as my internship took up a large amount of my time and energy. This makes me feel like I'm already a little behind due to my ambitious goals for the final product, but thats okay (I think).
I don't have much as this last week has been sort of chaotic for me within my personal life, but I was able to start the main characters 3D model. I've decided to name him Dan which will have an easter egg connection to my own life that I will explain later on. Also, I realized I never did any concept art for his character, so Ive also attached a working concept. I was able to lay out Dans proportions so I could get an idea if I like them or not and also start working on an organic hand model. The character model has been started in Cinema 4D and the hand model has been started in Maya because I like their organic modeling and sub-d features better than Cinema. I want the characters of this world to have a simple look as to not over complicate the design, because I am not a professional character modeler. This is one thing I will have to keep reminding myself through this modeling process, that this character is meant to have a simple design. I haven't started the monster model yet, but I know that will in itself present a whole new set of questions and issues. For now I want to figure this model out before moving onto the next thing.
I feel like I have several refresher questions that I need answers to, which I plan on making appointments with my advisor Brent Wiley for help within these next several weeks. Now that I've gotten an idea of the amount of work this model is going to need I plan on switching around my production schedule to allocate more time for this without taking time away from modeling the town square.
